How to Plan Well

With ad-hoc planning comes inefficient space-shaping, a shaky
local economy, and inevitably unhappy people. Municipal level planning dictates the location of jobs, residential
space, transportation access, and educational institutions. Depending on the plans, these goals are either
facilitated by sound foresight through integration of multi-departmental, region-wide input, or they’re undermined
by short-sightedness and a highly localized vision that disregards the periphery. While the political and
constitutional jurisdiction of municipalities may be limited, on the most outstanding matters such as economic
development, the priorities are shared across governments.
