Across the country, policy-makers agree that immigration is key to sustaining Canada's economic future. To be competitive on the world stage, Canada needs an educated and skilled workforce, which will depend on our ability to attract and retain international migrants. Citizenship and Immigration Canada has forecast that by 2015, 100 percent of Canada's labour force growth will come from immigrants. Since 2000, Canada has welcomed more than 200,000 new permanent residents each year, giving Canada one of the highest per capita rates of permanent immigration in the world.
