PSD February Economic Report: Trends in Local Employment Opportunities
PART-TIME VS. FULL-TIME JOB POSTINGS ON THE SERVICE CANADA JOB BANK WEBSITE, FEBRUARY, 2012This PSD Economic Report looks at the changes in employment opportunities across Canada within the last month. The slide above illustrates the distribution of job postings across Canada by city and full-time or part-time status. The most job postings remain in Alberta and Quebec's major cities, while full-time postings still greatly outnumber part-time job postings in all cities, with the exception of St. John's, still with no job postings in either category. Full-time jobs typically offer greater job security, wages, and benefits-a positive sign for local economies.
TOTAL PERMANENT JOB POSTINGS IN JANUARY 2012 VS. FEBRUARY 2012Between January and February, all major cities across Canada increased their number of job postings with the exception of the Windsor area which saw a 3 percent reduction in job postings, coinciding with Statistics Canada's new Census report showing that Windsor was one of only two Census Metropolitan Areas in Canada to have a reduction in population size from the 2006 Census. The largest change in the number of job postings came in Kingston with a 69 percent increase in the number of jobs posted on the Job Bank. Look below to see the industry breakdowns and individual results for each major city across Canada.
