In the spring of 2007 two members of the newly formed bicycling advocacy organization, Bike to the Future (later renamed Bike Winnipeg) decided to go out and count the number of cyclists at two of the bridges across the Assiniboine River that take traffic in and out of downtown. Our goal was to document the number of regular commuter cyclists in Winnipeg and to see whether the number was increasing. This quickly evolved into a larger effort involving many volunteers and locations. Thanks to a core of volunteers we have now been counting cyclists for ten years.
