MRC D'Argenteuil, Quebec: A Model for Rural Sustainability

The link between local food and sustainability is widely accepted, but MRC D’Argenteuil, Quebec’s successful linkage of food production and social justice is garnering interest across Canada. Last year, the regional county municipality (population 32,510) embarked on a community agriculture project with the goal of serving 400 disadvantaged families. Working with local farmers and commu-nity partners, vegetables were grown and distributed to nearly 2,000 individuals, simultaneously improving food security and promoting dynamic land occupancy and sustainable development.
