PORTLAND’S IN-PIPE HYDROPOWER SYSTEM SPINS WATER INTO ENERGY

Beneath a quiet residential street in SE Portland, Oregon a Portland Water Bureau (PWB) pipeline has been transformed into a generator of renewable energy – and new revenues for the city. The LucidPipe™ Power System, developed by Portland startup Lucid Energy, uses in-pipe hydropower to generate clean, low-cost electricity with no environmental impact and without affecting water operations. The electricity is being sold to the local power utility, Portland General Electric, through a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
