SENSING THE WAY FORWARD FOR INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT

The topic of aging infrastructure and infrastructure management is becoming an increasingly important point of discussion for policy makers as infrastructure assets built in the post-war period are coming to the end of their theoretical design lives. But the financial resources are not available, and will probably never be available, to rebuild all of these infrastructure assets. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has drawn attention to this issue with their 2013 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, which gave the condition of American civil infrastructure as a whole a grade of D+ and indicated an investment need by 2020 of $3.6 trillion.
