In 2016, the federal budget committed nearly $2 billion for drinking and wastewater infrastructure improvements for Indigenous communities in Canada. The allocation made good on a campaign promise by the Prime Minister and was delivered in tandem with a lofty and very worthy goal: ending boil-water advisories on First Nations reserves within five years.
